Letter: Flying flag is free speech

There has been much discussion lately on the subject of the Confederate battle flag.

The Confederate battle flag is a part of history, provocative as it may be. Yes, it is the flag of Southern traitors and symbolizes the abhorrent subject of slavery and should not be sanctioned by, and flown over local, state or federal buildings. But, any individual who wants to fly it from their pickup or from their personal flagpole on their property or use it as a participant in Civil War re-enactments, has the right to do that under the First Amendment to the Constitution.

Free speech is not immune from being moronic nor does it give a person or organization immunity from being criticized for their act of free speech. That’s the thing about free speech, if you truly believe in it, you take the good with the bad.
