Roses and Thorns

Everything’s rosy when it’s Christmastime, and our garden is no exception.

Rose: To Spencerville’s Sandkuhl Clay Works, which made custom-made tiles for the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City as part of a dome restoration project there. They replaced cracked and water-damaged terra-cotta tiles in the magnificent church, which is ready just in time for Christmas festivities. Sandkuhl Clay Works’ efforts were acknowledged in a New York Times article last week.

Rose: To Brittney Cobb and Tim Vernick, who became the first couple to get engaged at Anytime Fitness Lima. They met while working at Temple Christian Schools, but they built their relationship while working out at the fitness facility. Vernick surprised her by getting her to go to the facility thinking she would be filmed for a commercial before proposing on the facility’s purple turf.

Rose: To Pam Reinhart, who worked since 1982 as a waitress, much of that time at Henry’s Restaurant in Ottawa. She served food and a smile over the years, and we wish her well in retirement.

Rose: To Dave Dobner and Lexie Reed, who have a combined 105 years of experience in hairstyling, most recently at FX Effects on Cable Road. The salon, which opened on Cable Road in 1991, closed Friday as Dobner retires.
