Pat’s opens fourth location in Lima

LIMA — Throughout the decades, Pat’s Donuts and Kreme has made its mark on the community. On Tuesday morning, the owners held a ribbon cutting with the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce at its fourth location.

Ed and Michelle Ezzelle first purchased the business from its previous owner 19 years ago.

“We were actually looking to move back to my hometown, Delphos, and purchase my grandfather’s old business,” Ed said. “I grew up in the restaurant business and I was inspired to give it all up and take over. Then, this opportunity to buy Pat’s Donuts and Kreme came about.”

Ed said the previous owner, Henry was getting ready to retire after first opening the business in 1983. Ed also said I just “drive the bus that Henry built.”

The new owners opened their fourth location in November of last year. The store became an option after Ed received a phone call from a friend.

“We were just trying to maintain for the time being,” Ed said. “We got a call from a realtor friend and he told me to come by and take a look. I have always been fascinated with this location. I always thought if the ‘for rent’ sign ever came up (on that property) I would inquire.”

The business currently bakes all of its donuts at the Elida Road location. Ed and Michelle hope to one-day move production to the new location on Cable.

Pat’s does not only make donuts, but also pizzas, subs and much more.

“One of our most popular items is our breakfast pizza,” Ed said. “We use old-fashioned sausage gravy for the sauce. We also have a breakfast sandwich and eggs.”

The business is also known for its faith. Michelle said one day she got the idea to give away free Bibles.

“We’ve been Christians for life and I turned Catholic in 2008,” Michelle said. “We are strong in our faith and we believe we would not be where we are without God. John 3:16 came to me — if they do not know God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, maybe they can be introduced.”

The new store is located at 600 S. Cable Road. For more information visit patsdonuts.com.
