College-bound students and their families gather in the President’s Hall of the UNOH Event Center.
LIMA —While leaves are falling off trees and high school football is just reaching its postseason, UNOH on Friday was preparing students who they hope to host next fall.
The University of Northwestern Ohio’s Colleges of Business, Health Professions, and Occupational Professions held an open house for high school seniors and their families.
Director of Admissions Tony Azzarello said, “We’ll have about 300 people here showcasing this side of the college and then next week we have the one (open house) for the College of Applied Technologies. It’s a pretty good deal for these high school seniors to be able to come in, see if it’s a good fit, and then also a chance to win some money to go with it.”
Tyson Lawrence from Kenton was there to take the test in business administration with the hope of one day creating his own business. “It’s a pretty nice campus. I especially liked the athletic complex; I like to work out.” Zane Rogers, also from Kenton, is interested in a sports marketing major. Rexton Paquin is interested in video game design, video editing, information technology and a little bit of marketing.
The university offered full tuition scholarships to students who place 1st in tests for Accounting, Agribusiness, Business Administration, Information Technology, Medical Technology, and Marketing. Students who finished in 2nd place will receive a $5,000 scholarship, students who finished in 3rd place will receive a $4,000 scholarship, students who finished in 4th place will receive a $3,000 scholarship and students who finished in 5th place will receive a $2,000 scholarship.
Students and families had the opportunity to gather information about bachelor degrees and associate degrees in majors such as accounting, agribusiness management, business administration, healthcare administration, human resources management, sport marketing & management, information technology, computer forensics, marketing, medical assisting, motorsports marketing, health information technology, legal assisting, office management, and travel and hotel management.
An advisor for programs offered to adults or non-traditional students was on hand to discuss unique educational options available that include 100% online or a mix of both online and on-campus courses. There were opportunities to discuss financial aid, employment possibilities and program curricula with department staff. Tours of the University of Northwestern Ohio’s 200-acre campus will also be available.
