Early morning blaze Thursday destroys rural Van Wert home

MIDDLE POINT — A Van Wert County home was destroyed early Thursday morning by a fire of unknown origin.

According to Middle Point Fire Chief Craig King, firefighters from five area departments responded shortly after 2:45 a.m. to the residence at 12203 Converse-Roselm Road.

A spokesman for the Delphos Fire Department said that upon arrival, firefighters found “heavy flames coming through the roof of the two-story dwelling.” The occupants of the home, Brian Whittemire, his wife and child, evacuated the home prior to firefighters’ arrival and were not injured.

King said the cause of the blaze is undetermined at this time. The chief said the structure, owned by Steven Boyd, was a total loss.

Assisting Middle Point firefighters were crews from Delphos, Van Wert, Ohio City and Spencerville.
