Shawnee Township firefighters testing fire hydrants

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Firefighters will be flushing fire hydrants for maintenance and flow testing starting Monday, May 8 and continuing throughout the month, according to the Shawnee Township Fire Department.

The process may cause the water to become discolored, which is normal but can create a problem for residents washing laundry at the time. Residents should turn on water at a cold water tap for several minutes to make sure the water is clear before doing laundry.

The agency apologizes for the inconvenience but said it’s necessary to maintain the water system for fire protection.
