Overtime weekend draws big crowd

LIMA — Develup LLC, Cage Design and Global Riches Enterprises are three relatively new businesses in the Lima area.

To show they are behind their community, the three groups have been doing everything they can for those in need.

The three businesses combined to provide the Overtime Give Back event Thursday through Sunday, ending with all kinds of giveaways at Family of Faith United Methodist Church in Lima.

“With so much negative going on, we just felt the need to give back,” said Cortey Edwards with Global Riches. “We wanted to do something positive for the community. We saw a need and we wanted to give back.”

Events started Thursday with guest motivational speaker Inky Johnson. Johnson has a master’s degree in sports psychology from the University of Tennessee. He devotes much of his time to mentoring athletes and underprivileged youth. He suffered a life-threatening injury while playing for the university football team in 2006.

On Friday, a free basketball camp was held at Lima Senior High School. On Saturday, the basketball camp finished up and then attendees got the chance to see a celebrity basketball game that featured Philip “Hot Sauce” Champion, one of the most recognized names in the history of street basketball.

Events winded down Sunday with free school supplies, free food, free haircuts, vendors, music and midget football at Spartan Stadium.

Edwards said they just wanted to provide the youth of Lima with some positive role models and positive events with so many bad things happening in Lima.

“We want children to be educated and know that they can be positive influences,” Edwards said.

Edwards said they gave away nearly 700 bags of school supplies on Sunday.
