Great Lakes Restoration close to being extended

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance announced the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Act of 2024 passed the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works on Wednesday.

Vance, R-Ohio, and Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., championed the legislation, which would extend the initiative through 2031 and increase spending from $475 million in 2026 to $500 million the next four years.

The initiative focuses efforts to stop the spread of carp and invasive species, restore coastlines and habitats, clean up areas of concern and prevent future contamination.
