WAPAKONETA — Everyone has experienced a frustrating trip to a fast food restaurant.
Drive-thru lanes can be maddening, with workers sometimes forgetting to throw ketchup in the bag or loading your sandwich with toppings you didn’t want.
However, a couple recently had an incredible experience at Captain D’s in Wapakoneta — so incredible, they decided to start taking video.
Al Flores and his fiancee Katie Anderson posted to YouTube a video showing their experience.
The video shows the couple waiting for more than four minutes before anyone acknowledges them. Flores can be seen saying, “hello,” trying to get the crew’s attention several times, to no avail.
But it becomes apparent the young woman working the drive-thru forgot that her microphone was on. The couple was treated to about two and a half minutes of the girl’s personal life, including her claims to drug use. At the 1:28 mark in the video, the girl says she is “literally considering starting heroin,” and follows it up a few seconds later with considering “weed” and “coke” as well. The worker then admits to using “weed” and speaks of a time where “me and Martha got high in the Walmart parking lot.”
“We made a ghetto little bong out of a Pepsi can,” the employee said.
Soon after, another worker alerts the crew that someone is in the drive-thru and the microphone is on. The couple then enjoyed nearly a full minute of silence before another employee, sounding male, replies “Oh my God.” Another minute of silence goes by before another female gets on the intercom. Another female then takes their order.
“Hi, sorry about that. The person on drive-thru had the battery out. How can I help you?” the employee said.
Flores and Anderson appeared to take the whole ordeal lightly, and their laughter is woven through the video.
On Facebook, Flores shared two texts he received from someone appearing to be either an employee of the chain or a friend of the employee caught in the episode from someone named Lori Baker-Williams.
“Captain D’s was recently made aware of your video of your dining experience at the location in Wapakoneta,” the text reads. The post also asked which night they were there and said the company was looking into the situation immediately. It also requested removal of the video.
Flores also posted his response to the text, telling Baker-Williams that “I don’t think potential drug dealers are an ideal crew member for your company,” and “Have someone from your company contact me via message or email to discuss negotiations for removal.” He also responded they were in the store on “Monday or Tuesday of this week.”
Jim Line, an area director for Captain D’s, confirmed the video and was at the Wapakoneta restaurant Friday.
“We are aware of the video, and we are working internally to take care of the situation,” Line said. “We are working to get things under control, and that is what we are going to do.”
Line did not say if anyone had been fired. Flores and Anderson could not be reached for comment. The video, posted on YouTube Tuesday, had already surpassed 5,000 views Friday.
