Roses and Thorns

Doesn’t it always seem like one thorn can ruin a perfectly good batch of roses?

Thorn: To Demarco Morris, who will spend 30 years to life in prison for shooting at a truck and killing Lima’s Davion Latson, as well as injuring Michael Latson. We’re tired of seeing these types of cases, which assistant Allen County Prosecutor Kyle Thins aptly called “another senseless killing fueled by alcohol and bravado.”

Rose: To the recent batch of new business announcements, including Fricker’s on Allentown Road, Gabe’s on Bellefontaine Avenue on Michaels on Elida Road. It’s an exciting time in Lima, with more on the way.

Rose: To the team at Don Jenkins Jewelers, who will close after 78 years in business. You’ve been good to the people of the region over the years, and we wish you well in your retirement.

Rose: To Karen Chamber, of Lima, whose idea will be featured in Wednesday’s nationally syndicated Pluggers comic strip. It pokes fun at a plugger’s ability to see a spider from the corner of his eye but not a carton of milk in front of his face.

Rose: To Shawnee Township Police Department, for its increased speed enforcement near Shawnee schools and Apollo Career Center. Everyone should just slow down to protect our children.
