Roses and Thorns

Warmer temperatures seem to be helping the roses in our garden bloom this week.

Rose: To the boys basketball teams for Crestview and Ottawa-Glandorf. You both brought enthusiastic crowds to the state championship games, showing the strength of small communities. While you fell short of state titles, you’re still champions to us.

Thorn: To James Bridget and Terrance Williams-Armstrong, of Michigan, who led authorities on a four-county, high-speed pursuit that ended near Bluffton. Days earlier, another pursuit involving two juveniles ended near Bluffton. These pursuits put everyone at risk. Just pull over and face your circumstances before someone gets hurt or, worse yet, killed.

Rose: To the winners of the annual Hy Ho Club’s awards, students Jakyiah Allen, Jaden Reed, Miracle Manuel, Elijah Jones, Oliveah Sanders, Jordan Frazier, Tiana Spivey, Jamyla Lynch, Isaiah Wilson, Addisyn Freeman and Zion Jackson. It’s important to recognize these 11 upstanding teens and encourage others to follow in their footsteps of personal achievement, scholastics, athletics, leadership skills and community service.

Rose: For the family of Army Cpl. Clark Ellis Worline, who died in action in Korea back in 1950. His remains have been identified, offering closure for his family. We’re glad there are still efforts to provide this closure for those who die while serving our country.
