Roses and Thorns

After a warmer week, a few thorns found their way into our rose garden.

Thorn: To whoever killed and skinned two dogs, which were found last weekend outside a home on Lakewood Avenue. This kind of brutality can’t be accepted in a humane world. If you know who did it, call the Lima Police Department.

Rose: To Jon M. Rogers, of Lima, whose idea appears in Monday’s nationally syndicated Pluggers cartoon. Rogers suggested a sleeping figure with a book overtop his face, with the caption “Plugger Facebook.”

Thorn: To the hoax caller claiming to be from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, harassing people about appearing for jury duty or being material witnesses in common pleas court. The court had enough problems last year with people not reporting for jury duty. Authorities reminded the public they send out notices by mail, not by phone.

Rose: To Rosanna and Jonathan Mersereau, who brought Lima’s first baby of 2023 into the world at 9:15 p.m. Jan. 1 at Lima Memorial Health System. It’s the couple’s first child, and we wish the young family a happy, healthy and fulfilling lifetime.

Rose: To Lima musicians the Indoorfins, who celebrate their 30th anniversary this year.

Rose: To state Sen. Matt Huffman, who was sworn in as the Ohio Senate president last week.
