Roses and Thorns

It’s easy to have a rosy outlook when you’re in the home stretch toward the holidays.

Rose: To the 10 Bluffton Middle School students who sold cookies to raise money to pay $900 to help pay off the school lunch charges for classmates. You’re an inspiration to us all about helping those around us.

Rose: To the Pangle and Kriegel family, who continued their indelible mark on Lima with a donation to put the words “Pangle Pavilion” above the stage at the new amphitheater in downtown Lima. It’s a permanent reminder of the impact made by the family in groceries and other important businesses in the region.

Thorn: To Scott Catlett, who was convicted of the two lesser charges among the four charges he faced for a sexual incident involving a younger man. It reminds us all how important consent and not abusing authority really is.

Thorn: To Christopher Dadisman, who was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated robbery for stealing items from a car in a hotel parking lot. He blamed drug his addiction, but we all must be held accountable for our actions.

Rose: To Bluffton University athletic department, SpartanNash, Ohio Department of Transportation District 1, Graybar Electric, Westgate Entertainment Center, Midwest Rehab, Allen County commissioners, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, Elite Drone Service, Crime Victim Services, Allen East Schools FFA, Allen County Common Pleas Court, Angel’s Salon, Lima City Employee Union Local 1002, Mulligans Bar and Sugar Creek Church Spirit Seekers for sponsoring families in Allen County Children Services’ Adopt-A-Family program.

Rose: To Thermal Gard, for its annual Christmas commercial highlighting the holiday’s religious aspects. You can see the commercial online at bit.ly/3FUvfaO. A reader commended the business’s willingness to express Christian values instead of hawking its products this time of year.
