SAFY to provide in-home care for children

LIMA — New changes are coming to a local behavioral health organization dedicated to youth. SAFY (Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth of Ohio) will launch a program dedicated to families. According to a recent press release, the Empowering Families Program will provide in-home treatment for children ages infant through 17.

“There are so many youth in our community that find themselves involved in what we call multi-systems,” Treatment Director Judy Lester said. “They are struggling with their behavior; we have found in our community the missing link for services are those intensive home-based services — instead of the outpatient system, where we are expecting families to bring their children and we see the child by themselves. This gives us the opportunity to provide intensive services, wrap them around with referrals to other resources in the communities.”

Lester also said the program will help the children work on coping skills and teach them how to be successful.

The organization will begin accepting referrals on Sunday, Oct. 1.
