Shawnee schools to build new track

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — At a special school board meeting, the Shawnee Local School board unanimously approved the installation of a new track in the stadium. The red and black track will cost $724,800. Funds will be taken from the permanent improvement accounts.

When asked about improvement in athletic facilities, Athletic Director Steve Owen commented, “I think we’re definitely stepping in the right direction … I would like to maybe next year apply and try to get some playoff games. Eventually I’d like to apply to get soccer matches or tournaments and down the road hope to get back in line for hosting district track as well.”

Shawnee has applied for a grant to help fund the refinishing of the tennis courts. The school is awaiting the result of its application.
