Shawnee Township PD lands traffic safety grants

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee Township Police Chief Rob Kohli announced Tuesday that his department has been awarded two traffic-oriented safety grants from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office.

The grants, totaling $43,950, support high visibility enforcement of traffic safety activities designed to deter and change unsafe traffic behaviors in the department’s coverage area through September 2023.

An Impaired Driving Enforcement Program grant will be used solely in the evening and overnight hours to try to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes, Kohli said in a press release. A Selective Traffic Enforcement Program grant will be used to conduct high visibility enforcement, focusing on issues regarding speed, distracted/aggressive driving, failure to yield and seat belt violations.

“In recent months our agency has seen a slight rise in traffic crashes within Shawnee Township,” Kohli said in his prepared remarks. “The Shawnee Township Police Department is committed to using these funds to have more officers patrolling our roadways in an effort to combat impaired and unsafe driving. Our goal is to reduce traffic crashes and continue our ongoing effort to improve safe roadways for the Shawnee Township community.”
