Weather forces postponement of My Brother’s Keeper events in Lima

LIMA — All events scheduled for Saturday by the Lima chapter of My Brother’s Keeper organization were postponed due to cold weather and potential parking difficulties surrounding the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center in downtown Lima.

Event organizers earlier this week had announced that a youth workshop scheduled for Saturday had been postponed until Saturday, March 5 at a site to be determined after a winter snowstorm buried Allen County on Wednesday and Thursday. A Chicken n Waffle Brunch and Pop Up Shop was slated to be held as scheduled, but MBK spokesman Emmanuel Curtis said the group was encouraged to postpone those events as well due to the weather.

The Chicken n Waffle Brunch will be held March 5 in conjunction with the youth workshop, while the Pop Up Shop will take place from 2-6 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the civic center, Curtis said.

My Brother’s Keeper is a national organization created under former President Barack Obama in 2014. The organization provides support and mentorship to young boys and men of color.

The program inspires positive racial identity in Black boys, with a focus on staying safe, and cultural-based support for youth in grades four through eight.
