Real Wheels: Car repairman’s pride and joy

SIDNEY — Bob Williams, of Sidney, owns this beautiful 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air. He brought it to the recent Westgate Charity Car Show and took home the Best of Show award.

The ‘57 Chevy is part of the tri-five, which includes Chevy’s 1955, 1956 and 1957 model years. General Motors wanted an entirely new car for 1957, but production delays prevented that.

Williams is a man who works on cars. He doesn’t go to a lot of car shows because he doesn’t want to compete against his customers. That’s why he brought his car to the Westgate Charity Car Show, as he wouldn’t be competing against those customers in Sidney.

Williams has owned the car for 20 years. He did a complete frame off restoration and fired it up approximately 12 years ago. He said he has not put very many miles on the car since owning it.

Williams was attracted to the car because he used to own one when he was younger and always wanted another one.
