SPENCERVILLE — The last day of school for the 2016-17 year will be one young students will not soon forget. It ended with a bus crash, but luckily none of them were hurt.
The crash happened just after 4 p.m. Wednesday on state Route 117 at Park Street, said Spencerville Police Chief Darin Cook.
“It was not the way we wanted to end the last day of school,” Cook said.
A 20-year-old woman was driving a Pontiac car westbound on state Route 117 and turned in front of an eastbound car. That other car clipped the Pontiac, sending it into the school bus that was sitting northbound at a stop sign on Park Street getting ready to turn west onto state Route 117, Cook said.
The woman in the Pontiac was taken to the hospital to be treated. She was the only one injured complaining of neck and head pains, Cook said.
Cook did not have the woman’s name available but said she was from Spencerville. He said she was driving under a suspended license and did not have insurance. She will be issued a citation for driving under suspension, he said.
There were 42 children on the bus, Kindergarten through fourth graders, Cook said.
Another bus was called to the scene to continue the route. Some parents did come to the scene to pick up their children, Cook said.
