LIMA — U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., paid a visit to the Democratic Party campaign headquarters in Lima on Wednesday, hoping to encourage the local party faithful to continue their efforts to see Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton win the November election.
“I know the eyes of the entire country on Election Day will be on their television sets as they’re asking ‘What’s going on in Ohio?’” he said. “As I’m campaigning for Hillary Clinton up in Michigan, I thought I’d spend some time down here talking to the volunteers who are really making a difference.”
Peters spoke of the common bond of manufacturing between Ohio and Michigan and how he feels Clinton is the better choice for manufacturing.
“I think it’s part of the contrast between these two candidates,” he said. “You have Hillary Clinton, who stood strongly with President [Barack] Obama to make sure we have an auto industry through an auto rescue, which has been incredibly successful, versus Donald Trump, who has said that he would not have supported that.”
After the revelation that health care premiums for many insured through the Affordable Care Act are set to increase dramatically, Peters said the law could be tinkered with.
“It’s important that we go back and ensure it is working for everyone,” he said. “There is much to celebrate, but it doesn’t mean the law is perfect. So we have to go back and constantly fix it to ensure it is working for everyone. That’s why we need to elect folks who are about practical, commonsense ways to make sure that everyone, no matter who you are or where you live, have access to health care.”
