World-renowned organist to play Lima

LIMA — Hector Olivera, who his peers have called “one of the greatest organists in the world today,” will hold a concert Oct. 9 at Market Street Presbyterian Church in Lima.

Olivera has performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, and Carnegie Hall in New York among others.

Olivera’s musical talents were recognized at an early age.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he began playing at the age of 3 when his father gave him lessons on the pipe organ. Two years later he was appointed organist of his church and at age 6 he entered the Buenos Aires Conservatory to study music. He was 9 years old when he composed a suite for oboe and string orchestra, which was performed by the Buenos Aires Symphony. He later received a scholarship to New York’s Julliard School of music.

The Oct. 9 concert will be held at 3 p.m. Doors open at 2 p.m. ticket information can be obtained by calling 419-227-2691 or email [email protected].
