Lima apartment fire causes $20,000 damage

LIMA — An early morning house fire Friday left eight people looking for alternative housing until their home could be rendered safe.

No one was injured, said Lima Fire Battalion Chief Greg Kirkendall.

A kitchen fire at 603 W. Spring St., an old house converted into four apartments, was reported at 6:43 a.m. An occupant cooking food on a stove led to the fire, Kirkendall said.

Power was shut off to the house for safety reasons. The occupant of the unit where the fire occurred was Cordelia Thompson, 51, Kirkendall said.

Ike I. Obodo is listed as the owner of the building, according to Allen County Auditor records.

The fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damage, Kirkendall said.
