OTTAWA — A Pandora teen was sentenced to 120 days in jail Thursday for threatening to blow up his high school and kill a teacher.
James Alexander, 18, was given credit for 82 days served in jail and placed on three years probation. Putnam County Common Pleas Judge Randall Basinger ordered Alexander undergo a mental health evaluation and go through counseling.
Alexander was convicted of inducing panic, a fourth-degree felony, Assistant Putnam County Prosecutor Todd Schroeder said.
The threats were made April 8 involving Pandora-Gilboa schools. Basinger ordered Alexander, who was a senior at Pandora-Gilboa High School, to stay away from the schools and its staff.
Basinger asked Alexander about his desire to obtain a firearm. Alexander said if he made that statement it was only for hunting. He said he wanted to take up hunting but had never done it before.
Basinger told Alexander he had a hard time believing that statement.
Alexander apologized for his conduct.
