Armed robber hits Dollar General in Rockford

ROCKFORD — The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a robbery of the Dollar General Store that occurred at 2:22 p.m. Monday.

According to the report, the office received a 911 call from the store located at 401 West Bridge St. A white man about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet with a stocky build entered the store and browsed for a few minutes before displaying a handgun. The man was wearing an orange Texas Longhorn long-sleeve shirt, a white ball cap with sunglasses on top, and blue jeans with white tennis shoes. The man then demanded money and the employees complied. The man left Dollar General without incident and fled in a southeast direction.

The man may have been driving a mid-1990s Chevy Tahoe silver in color with Indiana handicap plate. Another man driving the vehicle was described to be in his mid-40s, shaved head, a white tank top and multiple distinctive tattoos.
