LIMA — The passing summer season was a little wetter than usual and average temperature-wise, according to Accuweather.com senior meteorologist John Feerick.
In the region, there was a total rainfall of 13.28 inches between June 21, the first day of summer, and Sept. 22, the last full day of summer. It was officially fall at 4:21 a.m. Wednesday.
However, he said the season could be split into two periods.
“The first couple of months we saw quite a bit of rain, much more than normal,” Feerick said.
However, from Aug. 10 to Sept. 22 rainfall was well below normal, pulling down that average.
The average temperature over the summer season was 71.3, just slightly above the 71.0 average. The average temperature is calculated by basing a day’s temperature on the average between the high and low numbers for each day.
“Average-wise, there wasn’t a whole lot of difference from what you would see on average,” Feerick said.
Feerick said temperatures over the first three weeks of September have been slightly higher than normal. Going into the fall season, we can expect to see some of those warmer temperatures a little longer.
“It looks like for the next few weeks we can expect those numbers to remain a little higher,” Feerick said. “It looks like we still have some nice weather ahead.
Feerick said we can still expect a chilly night here and there, but that temperatures would remain higher than normal into the middle of October.
