LIMA — Corene Pernell is celebrating her 90th birthday with a family dinner and a card shower. Cards may be sent to Corene at 1235 Oakland Pkwy, Lima, OH 45805.
Pernell was born May 25, 1934 in Lima to Nathaniel and Corene Cook Bankston. On June 25, 1954, she married Samuel Pernell, who died Feb. 1, 1996.
She has four children, Corene Stewart, of Chicago; Pauline Ross, Nazolla (James) Adams and Gwendolyn Pernell, all of Lima. Pernell also has 14 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. A son, Benjamin Allen Pernell, preceded her in death.
Pernell was employed at Woolworth for more than 20 years. She was a caregiver at Helping Hands Home Care Agency and a home aide with American Nursing Agency. Pernell is a member of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church and was involved with the Guild Girls Ministry. She was a master at sewing and has an unbelievably green thumb.
