Ford gives back to local parks

LIMA — Just days after Earth Day, local Ford employees decided to give back. Several volunteers agreed to join the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District in preparing Ottawa Metro Park for the new season.

“This is a busy time of year,” Director of Operations Brent Brinkman said. “The amount of work that gets done on this day would take our employees a couple of weeks. We are right at the start of spring and we have a lot more going on. We have more people coming to the parks and the grass is growing uncontrollably. This is big for us. It gets us off on the right foot for the summer and busy season to come.”

Brinkman said the employees have volunteered at the parks once a year for the past few decades. The participants focus on planting trees, cleaning up and mulching.

“Most of the time they volunteer at Ottawa Metro because it is a central location,” Brinkman. “The Ford employees have lunch at the farm park and come over.”

As the warm weather quickly approaches, Brinkman encouraged the community to enjoy the local parks.

“We work hard to keep everything looking nice and the ranger department active to keep everything safe,” Brinkman said. “It is a nice stress relief to get outside. We have a volunteer program where we can track hours. There are all kinds of things we offer and different volunteer experiences.”
