Girls basketball notebook: Bath strengthened by OT win; Ottoville streaking

An overtime win earlier this year at Sidney seems to have solidified the team chemistry for Bath’s girls basketball team.

The Wildkittens (5-0, 2-0 Western Buckeye League) operated well together in a 60-33 win Thursday against Shawnee.

Four players scored in double figures — Anne Oliver (21), Claire Foust (14), Kelsie Carlson (13) and Izzy McDermott (10) — against Shawnee. Bath coach Greg Mauk looked back to a 69-65 OT win against Sidney as the turning point, though.

“We meshed in the Sidney game,” Mauk said. “The Sidney game – it was like this group came together. … It was a battle. The group just seemed to pull tighter and tighter together. But that’s the kind of kids they are. They don’t care who gets the credit.”

Streaking Ottoville

Ottoville has won four in a row after beating Miller City, 53-42, on Thursday night.

The Big Green (6-1) saw balanced scoring led by Brooklyn Koester’s 12 points and Carly Thorbahn’s 11 points. Ottoville used runs of 11-0 in the first quarter and 8-0 in the second quarter to pull away.

Thorbahn twins Erica and Carly used some twinepathy in the second half as Erica drove the baseline and instead of taking the easy layup fired a no-look shot to her sister in the corner; Carly drained the three to put the Big Green up 27-13.

Maddie Erford had a game-high 22 points for Miller City (3-3).
