Lima approves allocation of funding

LIMA — Lima City Council met for its bimonthly agenda meeting on Monday evening. Council approved several ordinances for the allocations of Community Development Block Grant funds.

Local recipients included West Ohio Community Action Partnership, Bradfield Community Association, Lima City Schools, Soldiers of Honor, Grand Lake Theatrix Community Theatre, Trinity United Methodist Church, Oheneba Soccer Academy, Allen County Council on Aging and Mothers Helping Mothers.

“I just want to thank these programs for applying and being awarded from our community,” Third Ward Council member Carla Thompson said. “We have had the opportunity to see many of them already in action. We see the wonderful things they can and already do for our community. I would just want to encourage those programs as we move forward to talk to each other and maybe collaborate. You all are doing amazing things and I would love to see those things in partnership.”

New Lima-Housing for the Future and Habitat for Humanity received funding through the HOME funds.

Debra Vobbe was appointed head of the Civil Service Board.

The council approved an ordinance for the mayor to receive a gift of $10,000 from the United Steelworkers Local 1626. According to the communications letter, the city will use the funding for the purchase of a shade structure for the Lima Stadium Park splash pad.

Council also passed a resolution to honor Parrice Smith for receiving an Emmy Award. Smith is an Elida native. According to the resolution, Smith was awarded for Outstanding Arrangement and Composition. The artist reportedly remade the song “People Get Ready.”
