Lima resident completes NACA program

LIMA — A life-long dream has come true for Lima resident Karen Anderson. The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America aided in the process of Anderson becoming a homeowner. Anderson reportedly attended the NACA homebuyers event in April. Today, she has the keys to her own home.

“I started the process on April 28,” Anderson said. “That was the first workshop the mayor held here in Lima. I closed on my house on July 27.”

The NACA program assists home-ownership seekers through below-market rate mortgages. According to the company website, those who qualify have zero down payment, no closing costs, no hidden fees and no mortgage insurance.

“With my action plan, there is no down payment and no closing costs with the NACA program,” Anderson said. “They do want you to have savings (which is used to pay for the part of the first year’s homeowners insurance) and then also for the home inspection. NACA is not going to let you buy a house that is not safe. They want you to have a home and pest inspection done. For the pest inspection, you do get those funds back as a closing cost credit to you. Then they want you to have at least one of the mortgage payments in the bank ready to go for when it’s time for you to make your first payment.”

Anderson also said the program encouraged her in her place of employment.

“I assist homeowners every day,” Anderson said. “That’s always been a goal that I wanted to achieve and with NACA, I was able to make that happen — I didn’t know that it would just take me three months to save up that money. I found a way to help supplement my income and earn extra funds. So I was able to get through the process quicker because I was determined to make this happen for myself. Anybody that is already going through the NACA program, or thinking about it, stay focused, and it will work for you too.”

Lima will host its third event from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, at LACNIP, 1440 W. Spring St. Community members can register for the event at nacalynx.com. Those interested are also able to walk in on the day of the event without registering before.
