Lima shooting leaves one injured

LIMA — The Lima Police Department is investigating a shooting late Wednesday that left at least one person injured.

According to a release from Lima Police Det. Steve Stechschulte, at about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, the department was notified of multiple shots being fired in the 1000 block of East North Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the shots were being fired at a gathering of people at 1011 E. North St., which is a garage-type building in a fenced-in lot. Several shots had been fired in front of the building and inside the fenced-in lot, according to the release, with both the building and several vehicles struck by bullets.

Currently, one person is known to have been injured during the incident, according to Stechschulte. I’tazia Harris, 21, was struck in the leg and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center for treatment.

Additional shell casings were discovered along the railroad tracks next to the property as well as to the rear of the fence line, which would suggest “an ambush-style shooting with multiple assailants,” according to the release.

The investigation is ongoing with police following up on several leads, Stechschulte said in the release. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact Stechschulte at the Lima Police Department, 419-221-5181, or to call CrimeStoppers at 419-229-STOP (7867).
