Lincoln Park Dances running strong

LIMA —Lima’s Lincoln Park has been welcoming up to 150 people every Friday night for dances with free music all summer and the next edition of the event should be no different.

Music by Melvin, which will feature traditional music, will perform starting at 7 p.m. Friday.

“He does a lot of Elvis music and a lot of nice dance music,” Mike Skinner, who helps organize the dances, said. “He’s from Columbia City, Indiana and he just puts on a really nice program.”

Residents can enjoy the free event and join in the dancing.

“I’d encourage them to come out because number one, it’s a great night of entertainment and it’s free,” Skinner added. “We also provide bottled water and snacks for people when they do come out. So, it just makes for a real nice evening and it’s rated G so everybody is invited to come.”

Skinner said that it means a lot to be able to have wholesome entertainment like this available in the city every week.

“To be able to have 10 straight Friday nights in Lima with this type of entertainment is really nice and the beauty of it is we had about 17 local sponsors that paid for the whole thing,” he said.

And there are several more weeks to come with even more entertainment.

“We’ve got different groups that will be playing different types of music and different genres,” Skinner said. “Every week, we’ve got something that will appeal to about everybody. A couple of nice acts coming up are the Nashville Crush, who play modern country music, July 21 and KGB, who will perform Motown hits, Aug. 4 and both will be really fun nights.”

Bill Corfield will perform traditional dance music July 28 and Exploit Trio will perform pop and rock hits Aug. 11.

The Lincoln Park Dances have been a tradition in Lima for over 80 years and are sponsored today by Lima Senior Center Services and Parks and Recreation.
