Roses and Thorns

The roses are certainly in bloom this week, with a lot to be thankful for in the region:

Rose: To Jim and Andrea Rode, who recently broke ground on the Rode’s Meats meat packing company in Delphos. We’re happy to see you succeed and appreciate the advantages of locally handled meats.

Rose: To all the youth involved with the Putnam County Fair. It’s reassuring to see so many hard-working children with an interest in agriculture.

Thorn: To the demise of the High Octane Drumline. It’s sad to see lack of interest bring down this unique and beneficial program for at-risk youth. We wish more children would learn the joys of playing an instrument like the drums.

Rose: To Escape Wapak, which recently expanded into the former St. Joseph’s Elementary building on Lincoln Avenue. We’re big fans of bringing entertainment to the region, and finding a good way to reuse an existing building is the cherry on top.
