Roses and Thorns

Somehow the roses didn’t wilt in the unseasonably hot sun.

Thorn: To Bradley Gillespie, the inmate who escaped from Allen-Oakwood Correctional Institution in search of his freedom and ended up drowning in the Ohio River instead. The only path to freedom is facing the consequences of your actions.

Rose: To all of the area athletes participating at the state track and field championships this weekend. It’s really an impressive feat to be among the best in the state.

Rose: To the organizers of the Memorial Day parade. It was a joy to see this Lima tradition resuscitated. Similar events happened throughout the area, as area veterans wouldn’t let their fallen friends be forgotten.

Rose: To city officials working to improve the lighting in Lima. The $350,000 investment will beautify the community while making it safer.
