The criminal justice system seems to produce many thorns. Perhaps the good news is they’re not a thorn in society’s side anymore.
Thorn: To Deontray Forrest, who was found guilty on all counts in the deaths of three people in the Levels Lounge shootings. He received a prison sentence for 24 years to life in prison. The 2020 incident unnecessarily terrified people about the safety of downtown. We’re happy he received his sentence and the community can move forward.\
Thorn: To Blake Myers, who received an eight-year prison sentence for assorted drug-related offenses, including trafficking in cocaine.
Rose: To John Heaphy and Good Food Restaurants, which will install an archway overtop Spring Street near his restaurant project at the corner of Spring and Main. It’s exciting to see this kind of forward-thinking investment from the business community to beautify downtown Lima.
Rose: To Dave and Danielle Buschur, who chipped in $1 million to help with the Grand Event Center project at the Mercer County Fairgrounds. That’s true generosity.
