Violence in our community continues to be a thorny issue in our rose garden.
Rose: To everyone who votes on Tuesday (or already voted with early voting). We salute you for casting your ballot and keeping our democracy running as it should.
Thorn: To Ja’naz Smith, an 18-year-old found guilty by a jury in the death of 44-year-old Danielle Jackson. He’ll spend 28 years to life in prison for the crime, which stemmed from a robbery. It’s such a waste of life, both for Smith and for Jackson. His accomplice in the crime, Jordan Daniel, was found guilty in juvenile court.
Thorn: To the recent spate of violence in the city and region. We must learn as a society to be more civil and not resort to violence to address our issues.
Rose: To Runnings, a Minnesota-based retailer who will take over the R.P. Home & Harvest stores in Lima and Findlay. We wish you well in our community.
