SIDNEY — Two Michigan men are in custody following a four-county, high-speed pursuit which started Tuesday night in Sidney and ended just north of Bluffton.
According to Captain Jerry Tangeman of the Sidney Police Department the driver of the car, James Bridget, 30, of Southfield, Michigan, has been charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony. His passenger, Terrance Williams-Armstrong, 24, of Detroit, is charged with a misdemeanor offense of obstructing official business.
According to a press release, units from the Sidney Police Department were involved in the pursuit on I-75 that started at 8:06 p.m. in Sidney. The suspected vehicle, registered in Alabama, was observed committing a traffic infraction. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle it sped up in an attempt to elude. Units from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio State Patrol joined in the chase.
The pursuit ended near I-75 near mile marker 145, just north of Bluffton, when the suspect lost control of the vehicle after road spikes were deployed. Bridget was immediately taken into custody while Williams-Armstrong fled on foot into a wooded area. He was taken into custody after a state patrol helicopter and tracking dog were summoned to the scene.
The Bluffton Police Department issued an announcement at 9:38 p.m. that the suspect had been apprehended.
Bridget and Williams-Armstrong are currently incarcerated at the Shelby County jail. The investigation is still ongoing and could result in more charges, officials said.
