Manchester tours Lima Senior’s career tech

LIMA — State Representative Susan Manchester (R-Waynesfield), vice-chair of the House Commerce and Labor Committee, toured the career tech facilities Monday at Lima Senior High School. Unable to attend “ATaste of Career Tech” earlier in the month, Manchester arranged a later tour.

The “A Taste of Career Tech” tour included short visits to all of Lima Senior’s 12 programs: ag and outdoor occupations, audio engineering, auto technology, construction trades, culinary and food service management, early childhood education, engineering technology, graphic communications, marketing education, patient care technology and welding and metal fabrication.

Prior to her tour, Manchester was given an overview of the program by Principal Tyler Turner and the director of career tech Courtnee Morris.

Then, Manchester, Turner and Morris walked the hallways encountering students both in the halls and in the classrooms and speaking with instructors about their programs.

After the tour, Manchester said, “Workforce development is crucial. Career training can help students identify their interests and explore various career paths. This can help them make more informed decisions about their future education and career choices.”

The growth of career tech has prompted the city schools to expand with a new building at the former Emerson School location at the corner of Boyer and Edwards streets. There will be two buildings – one for agriculture and one for engineering.
