Exchange Club donates $1,000 to Child Protective Services

LIMA — One man’s abundance is another man’s treasure. The Lima Exchange Club presented a check of $1,000 to the Allen County Child Protective Services on Monday afternoon.

The Lima Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #370 informed the Exchange Club of a potential donation. Lima Exchange Club secretary Mike Mullen said he thought of giving to CPS to help with families. Mullen weighed in on the donation at their meeting Monday afternoon.

“Several weeks ago, the Eagles Club in Lima approached our club and said, ‘Do you have some projects we could donate to that might help your club out?’” said Mullen. “They came through with a $1,000 donation and because of our longstanding relationship with Children Services we thought it would be great to ask Sarah what they needed down there.”

The Exchange Club focuses on preventing child abuse and continues to partner with CPS by giving.

According to a recent press release, CPS plans to keep a supply of diapers on hand to meet the needs of families. The donation was received by Allen County Child Protective Services Executive Director Sarah Newland. Newland weighed in.

“When Mike and the Exchange Club contacted us, what came to mind is diapers,” said Sarah Newland. “It is something so basic but any of us who have had to buy them before knows they are not inexpensive.”

Newland said while working with families, CPS identifies the needs of a family. She also said having the diapers on hand will assist with the program.

“There is always a need in our community to assist young mothers or fathers with the essential items for children,” said Newland. “A lot of times our families are under a lot of stress and diapers are not cheap. To just be able to facilitate diapers to families can make a huge impact.”
