Local artist Parker to take stage at Outskirts

LIMA — Ryan Parker has performed at what is now Outskirts Brewery before, but when he performs at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, it will be the first time he has taken the stage since it was Vino Bellissimo.

“Honestly what I’m most excited about is that when the establishment used to be Vino Bellissimo, it was one of my favorite places to play music mostly because of the staff,” Parker, who lives in Findlay, said. “I play music all over the area and there is so much music that people don’t appreciate. But every time we’ve played in Lima, especially when Outskirts was Vino, we always got a great response from the crowd. They always seem more engaged and alert and they enjoy it a lot.”

Parker performs with his band Violet Vinyl but will be at Outskirts as a one-man band act.

“My sound is kind of a laid-back but energetic style,” he said. “I play a lot of covers from the ’60s and ’70s and make them my own, and I play kick drum, harmonica and guitar while singing at the same time. It’s kind of a stripped down, vintage sound that people can chill and vibe to.”

Parker, who was born in Lima, said that he feeds off of the crowd a lot when he sees his friends enjoying the show and that the audience should expect that this Saturday.

“When it’s a lively bunch, people can expect me to put on a fun, entertaining show,” he said. “But at the same time, it’s not too crazy where you can still have a conversation at your table and I’m not blasting your ears. I also will do a lot of funny banter and talk about silly things off the top of my head to make people laugh and feel comfortable.”

For anyone who might be a fan of Parker’s Americana style and wants to check out more beyond this show, there is good news.

“I hope to start working on a new album and get that out in the next year or two, as well,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of new originals that we’re dishing up.”
