SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee Township Trustees approved a 95% tax abatement for Pegasus Specialty Vehicles to build a 215,000 square foot facility with an estimated value of between $21 and 29.5 million to be used for manufacturing school busses, shuttle buses and EV trucks. The enterprise zone agreement for Pegasus Specialty Vehicles for an exemption of ninety-five percent for a period of ten years.

Cynthia Leis, Director of Business Development for the Allen Economic Development Group, said, “They (Pegasus Specialty Vehicles) are moving their existing 60,000 square foot building, bringing ten jobs with them to a new location in Gateway Shawnee and looking at 25 acres and over 200,000 square feet of a new facility and anywhere from 50 to 60 new jobs coming to the county.”

Brian Barrington, President of Pegasus Specialty Vehicles, “With all the EVs we got in the pipeline, about 3,000 orders, it’s going to grow and grow fast. So the sky’s the limit and we’re excited about the possibilities.”

The trustees continued the meeting with other business. Trustee Russ Holly summarized the year 2022, “We’ve accomplished a lot of things. There were some levies that passed. We bought some equipment with those monies that need to be replaced. Overall you look at what was happening with the national and world economy, not too bad, not too bad.”

In 2023 the trustees are looking for more improvements. “We’ve talked about a possibility of an outstation for the fire department or repairing the station we already have,” Holly said. “We’re going to do some drainage projects and we’re going to upgrade our dispatch.”
