Reese Dailey Band to play Old City Prime

LIMA — Old City Prime is set to host its latest show, this time featuring an original southern rock style outfit, the Reese Dailey Band.

Lead singer and guitarist Reese Dailey is excited to return to the venue that he calls “one of the most amazing music venues I’ve ever played in” at 8 p.m. Friday.

“The room is specifically built for acoustics and sound right from the ground up,” said Dailey. “I don’t know how you describe that kind of outward oval shape, but it is designed to guide sound all the way from the front of the room to the back of the room. And that’s a pretty incredible thing. It’s also a really eclectic room. I just love the decor and the stage and the sound system that they’ve put in, the lighting system they put it in and everybody’s just wonderful to work with down there real professional, but I just love playing there.”

Dailey, who is the son of Put-In-Bay star artist Pat Dailey, would know what he is talking about, given his background.

“My music dates back to my original roots, which was southern rock,” said Dailey. “I always liked Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers and Stevie Ray Vaughn. I’ve always gravitated toward southern rock, southern blues and Texas blues. I had a real guitar-focused influence growing up and whatnot. So that’s kind of the music that I really gravitated toward.”

Dailey even likes to add humor to his sets, much like his father’s friend, the famous writer Shel Silverstein, even though the music alone is enough to draw attention.

“Musically, I feel like we’re one of the best bands around in terms of musicianship,” he said. “I’ve been playing long enough now that I’ve got great musicians around me. We’ve all put together this incarnation of the band for about six or seven years now and they’re the last guys I want to play with. They’re all great musicians.”

“So you’re going to see some great musicianship and a lot of dueling guitars. But you’ll also get a frontman. I pride myself on communicating well with the crowd and we talk to each other and joke and laugh. There is a lot of fun involved in the set. So in addition to some really wild music, some will be good easy listening and melodic stuff. But there will also be some original music that I think is a lot of fun and really makes people laugh and have a good time.”

Dailey said that the audience will be catching the band in the midst of a creative stretch, with studio production starting on a new album due out in the next year.

“We’re going back after that stuff and we want to get those songs accomplished,” he said. ” We’ve got 10 more original songs that we want to put on disc and be able to release hopefully by the end of 2023. And people can also find us in the Lake Erie Islands, specifically Put-In-Bay at the Boathouse. And we play all over western, northeast and northwest Ohio.”

Tickets for the Reese Dailey Band show are available now online.

Rounding out the band, in addition to Dailey on vocals and guitar, are Tom Lawson on guitar, Keith Fournier on bass and Scott Kretzer on drums.
