This week’s updates on the coronavirus pandemic

• Seventeen residents and two employees at Wyngate Senior Living Community tested positive for COVID-19 in the last seven days, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

The assisted living community is one of a dozen long-term care communities in Allen, Auglaize and Putnam counties to report active COVID cases to ODH in the last week.

Others include: 11 residents and three employees at Lochhaven assisted living; nine residents and four employees at the Meadows of Ottawa; one resident and seven employees at the Meadows of Kalida nursing home; three residents and one employee at the Hilty Home nursing home; two employees at Putnam Heritage assisted living; two residents at Autumn Court nursing home; one resident and one employee at Lima Convalescent Home; one resident at Maple Crest Mennonite Memorial Home; one resident at Auglaize Acres; one employee at Otterbein-Cridersville nursing home; one resident at Otterbein-Cridersville assisted living; and one employee at Meadows of Leipsic.

• There were three additional deaths attributed to COVID-19 reported in the five-county region in the last seven days, including one in Allen County and two in Van Wert County, ODH data show.

• Hospital admissions for COVID illness in the Allen County area declined to 8.5 per 100,000 people in the last seven days, down from 13.1 hospitalizations per 100,000 people the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 3.2% of all staffed inpatient beds were occupied by patients with COVID illness, an increase from the previous week.

The CDC in turn lowered its risk advisories for Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam and Van Wert counties from medium to low due to declining case rates and hospital admissions.

• Allen County Public Health will continue offering updated COVID-19 boosters and influenza vaccines at its off-site immunization clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays at Clock Tower Plaza, 927 N. Cable Road, Lima, in suites 195 and 200, through Friday, Dec. 30.
