Roses and Thorns

When the weather gets cooler, it’s harder to find a rose. You can still find them in your look closely. The thorns, on the other way, are always there.

Thorn: To Lima council, which decided to require $60 permits to put the portable on-demand storage units on property for 30 days. They’re often used during home renovations. This is an unnecessary additional tax for people willing to invest in their properties.

Rose: To Curtis Shannon Jr., who is Mr. North Carolina A&T. The Lima native turned a negative interaction with police and turned it into his inspiration to become a lawyer.

Rose: To Allen County, which is finally working to accept credit cards for payments in its offices. More government agencies and schools should accept the modern reality that many people don’t carry cash or checkbooks with them.

Thorn: To Senate candidates Tim Ryan and J.D. Vance. The public finally got to see the would-be senators debate, and it turned into a mean-spirited case of two people hurling insults back and forth. We really hoped to see more positive, substantive discussion, not the bickering already associated with politics.

Rose: To Shawn Hartman, who recently was sworn in as a captain by Allen County Sheriff Matthew Tregli. He has 27 years of law enforcement experience.
