Local counties taper down snow emergency levels Friday

LIMA — Local counties surrounding Lima reduced emergency snow levels on Friday morning as the worst of Winter Storm Landon moved eastward and left the region still covered in thick, wet snow.

Many Lima city roads were cleared of snow by noon Friday as temperatures warmed and snow began to melt. Road crews were out in force clearing snow from main thoroughfares and side streets.

According to a press release, Allen county Sheriff Matt Treglia, canceled the Level 1 Roadway Warning at about 3;15 p.m. Friday. The alert reminds residents that county roads may still be dangerous, but driving conditions have improved. Treglia also advised residents to use caution as the snow melts and possibly refreezes overnight.

Auglaize County Sheriff Michael L. Vorhees downgraded at 11 a.m. Friday the Snow Emergency from Level 2 to Level 1. A winter weather advisory is in effect until 3 p.m. Friday. The county’s level 3 alert was reduced to Level 2 at 8:30 a.m. Friday and drivers are still advised to stay off county roads and not travel unless necessary.

Putnam County Sheriff Brian S. Siefker reduced the Snow Emergency to Level 1 at 1 p.m. Friday.

Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey canceled all Snow Emergency as of 10:40 a.m. Friday but advised residents to drive with caution on county roadways.

The Bluffton Public Library is closed Friday, according to a press release from library Director Jessica Hermiller.

The Hancock Public Health Department is also closed on Friday, per Cheryl S. Miller, a public relations and communications specialist with HPHD. Rhodes State College in Lima is also closed on Friday, officials stated in an email.

Officials at the Auglaize County Health Department announced in a press release the department’s offices are closed Friday. Patients and others with health needs can check the department’s website at www.auglaizehealth.org for updates.
