High school football: Bluffton records sixth straight shutout

BLUFFTON – Bluffton shut out its sixth straight opponent with Friday night’s 34-0 Northwest Conference victory against Leipsic.

The Pirates improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the NWC while the Vikings fell to 6-2 on the season (3-2 NWC).

The Pirates, who held the guests to 136 yards total offense, broke on the board first with an 84-yard drive in 11 plays. The score was a 30-yard connection from quarterback Garret Bogart to Gavin Bogart in the left side of the end zone at the 3:55 mark of the first quarter.

After stopping the Vikings on downs at the Bluffton 44, it took two plays to go up 14-0 thanks to a jet sweep by Gavin Bogart. He found the corner, got a finishing block and was gone for a 52-yard run.

A blocked punt by Bluffton’s Noah Bricker set up the hosts at Leipsic’s 26. Two plays later at the 2, Landen Worcester bulled over right guard with 10:48 showing in the half.

After an exchange of punts opened the third, Bluffton commenced a 10-play, 58-yard drive that culminated on a 7-yard scoring connection from Garret Bogart to Gavin Bogart. Basil’s conversion was off for a 27-0 lead with 3:34 left in the period.

Taking over at the Bluffton 32, the hosts started a 15-play series that ended on a 4-yard dive over right guard by Gavin Bogart with 4:10 left that started a running clock.
