Ottoville wins PCL golf tournament, league title

KALIDA — Ottoville won the Putnam County League boys golf tournament and the overall PCL championship on Monday at Moose Landing.

The Big Green shot a 316 team score, 25 strokes ahead of runner-up Miller City, to win the tournament. Kalida was third at 342, followed by Columbus Grove at 362, Pandora-Gilboa at 365 and Leipsic and Fort Jennings both at 377. In the overall standings, Ottoville was No. 1 and Kalida was No. 2, followed by Miller City, Leipsic, Columbus Grove, Fort Jennings and Pandora-Gilboa.

Kalida’s Connor Nartker was the tournament medalist with a 72. Ottoville’s Keaton Schnipke shot a 75 and his teammates Evan Altenburger and Blake Kortokrax shot 78.

Brevin Brandt of Leipsic, the PCL Player of the Year, had a 77. The All-PCL first team was Jack Stechschulte of Kalida, Aiden Harris of Pandora-Gilboa, Andrew Weis of Miller City, Brandt, Nartker and Altenburger. The second team was Owen Huffman (Pandora-Gilboa), Michael Turnwald (Ottoville), Will Otto (Miller City), Nick Schroeder (Leipsic), Gavin Vennekotter (Miller City), Gage Sautter (Columbus Grove) and Ottoville’s Schnipke.

Finn will lead St. John’s girls basketball program

DELPHOS – Ian Finn has been hired as high school girls basketball head coach at Delphos St. John’s.

Finn most recent coaching experience was in the Fort Jennings junior high girls program. He has also coached boys fifth grade and eighth grade teams and has been a basketball personal trainer at Apex Sports Zone.

Six area teams ranked in high school state football poll

COLUMBUS — Six area football teams, including four from the Midwest Athletic Conference, are ranked in the latest high school state football poll.

Marion Local is No. 1 in Division VII, Minster is No. 11 and Leipsic is No. 13. In Division VI, Versailles is No. 1 and Bluffton is No. 6. Coldwater is No. 2 in Division V.

Girls Soccer

Allen East 9, Crestview 2

Rilynn Jones scored six goals for the Mustangs. Teammate Aubrey Young added two more and Riley Jordan also had a goal.

Bath 3, Celina 1

Tatum Walsh had two goals and Karlie Wallace scored another for Bath in a 3-1 win at Celina. Faith Clark had two assists.

Kenlee Holstad scored Celina’s goal and Alex Kimmel had an assist. Bath had 11 shots and Celina had seven. Carmen Kunkleman had four saves for Bath and Celina’s Isabel Maxwell had 5.

Bath is 4-1 in the Western Buckeye League.

Elida 3, Defiance 1

Lexie Good scored two goals and JoJo Knight had a goal and an assist for Elida in a 3-1 win over Defiance.

Elida had 7 shots and Defiance had 6 shots. Leah Ramirez had 5 saves on 6 shots. Elida is 8-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the WBL.

Shawnee 2, St. Marys 2

Shawnee played to a tie for the fifth time this season. Ella Moritz and Tayma Jmiai scored goals, Kamryn Morris had an assist and Chloe Nance had 10 saves for Shawnee.

Emma Freewalt and Sophia Menker scored goals for St. Marys. Claire Turner and Leah Brackman had assists. Ella Jacobs had 12 saves for the Roughriders.

Shawnee is 3-3-5 overall and 2-1-3 in the Western Buckeye League. St. Marys is 7-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the WBL.

Ottawa-Glandorf 14, Van Wert 0

Thirteen players scored for undefeated O-G (12-0). Mackenzie Recker scored twice and Myka Aldrich, Makenna Siefker, Lauren Siefker, Carlie Brinkman, Bri Douglass, Liv Grothause, Madelyn Hovest, Savannah Recker, Delaney Duling, Maya Heringhaus, Emma Heringhaus and Kylee Lehman all had one goal.

Duling had three assists and Siefker, Aldrich and Grothause all had one.

Volleyball

Perry 3, Spencerville 0

Perry won for the eleventh time in 13 matches with a 25-10, 25-21, 25-16 straight sets win over Spencerville.

Statistical leaders included Carlee Dalton with 22 assists, Alana Pernell with 21 digs, Takyrah McVay with 9 kills, and Alexa Burgess with 2 aces, Mary Hoersten with12 kills and 18 digs and Lexenna Lee with 11 kills.

Elida 3, Hardin Northern 0

Elida swept Hardin Northern 25-19, 25-10 and 25-22, led by Abby Kristoff (10 kills), Abby Kristoff (10 kills), Kaelynn Smith (5 kills, 2 aces), Tilly Henderson (5 kills) and Addysen Sneary (21 assists, 5 kills, 4 aces).

Allen East 3, Elmwood 0

Allen East defeated Elmwood in straight sets 25-22, 25-22 and 22-18. Taylor Nickles had 7 kills and 3 blocks. Savana Brooks and Neena McGue had 9 kills and Soraya Jackson had 8 kills.

Continental 3, Holgate 0

The Pirates won for the ninth time in 15 matches with their 25-20, 25-14, 25-21 victory over Holgate.
