LCC cracks top 10 in latest football poll

Lima Central Catholic entered the top 10 for the first time in the Division VII Associated Press High School Football poll released Monday.

The Thunderbirds, with a win over Worthington Christian Friday, improved to 4-1 and are tied for ninth in the rankings with New Bremen and Edon. LCC (4-1) will face Beverly Fort Frye (5-0), No. 2 ranked in Division IV, Friday night in London.

Columbus Grove (6-0), with its comeback win over Leipsic, is ranked No. 8 in Division VI.

In Division IV, Van Wert (5-1), who edged Ottawa-Glandorf Friday night, 32-27, was ranked No. 9 overall.

Boys Golf

PCL Championships

BLUFFTON — Ottoville took first placeat the Putnam County League tournament and Pandora-Gilboa’s Eli Huffman was the medalist with a 70. Leipsic’s Mason Brandt was named the PCL Player of the Year.

Shawnee 157, Lima Central Catholic 194

Shawnee’s Colin Pasion was the medalist with a 36. Other team scores were Jack Shivley 38, Justin Altenbach 41 and Derek Rhodes 42. For Lima Central Catholic, Zach Campbell shot a 49, followed by Cam Stewart with a 53 and Austin Craig with a 55.

Shawnee improves to 11-0 and LCC falls to 1-14.

Boys Soccer

Allen East 2, Lima Central Catholic

HARROD — Allen East’s Braylen Kennedy had two goals and Lima Central Catholic’s Kaden Odom scored for the Thunderbirds. Mustang Matti King was credited with an assist. Allen East keeper Blake Clum made five saves.

Girls Soccer

Ottawa-Glandorf 2, Celina 1

Ottawa-Glandorf got goals from Myka Aldrich ad Makenna Siefker. Lily Haselman was credited with an assist. Titan goalie Abby Warnecke made five saves. Celina Raven Harris scored for the Bulldos.

Shawnee 12, Van Wert 0

Shawnee’s Tayma Jmiai had three goals and an assist and Addison DuGranrut scored twice. Megan Carder and Taylor Morris had a goal and an assist. Lily Cleaves, Kennedy Jensen, Zoe Best, Rylie Lamb and Chloie Nance all had goals. Ava Schaff, Bri Ridenour, Riley Smith and Natalya Booher all recorded assists. Shawnee keeper Kaelan Swallow had a save to preserve the shutout and Van Wert’s goalie Grace Dowler had 22 saves. Shawnee improves to 6-0 in the WBL and 10-1 and Van Wert drops to 1-10 and 0-6 in the league.

Elida 2, Wapakoneta 0

Elida’s Lacie Moening and Olivia Laux scored goals and Jojo Knight recorded an assist. Elida keeper Payton Kuhn made four saves to score the shutout. Elida is 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the WBL.

Delphos Jefferson 5, Spencerville 0

Jefferson’s Alvia Lindeman had a goal and assist and Krystin Moore had two goals. Haylee Bayman and Rylyn Marquiss had a goal. Wildcat keeper Lillian Baughn had nine saves to secure the shutout.

Girls Tennis

Ottawa-Glandorf 4, St. Marys 0

OTTAWA — Ottawa-Glandorf got singles wins from Sami Ellerbrock, Alyse Balbaugh and Morgan Schroeder and a doubles win from the team of Lauryn Bickrath and Megan Welch. St. Marys got a doubles win from the pair of Liz Brown and Aaliyah Newland.

Fostoria 5, Kenton 0

FOSTORIA — Fostoria beat Kenton in 5-0.

Elida 3, Hardin Northern o

Elida won 25-15, 25-21 and 25-13. Elida’s Addisyn Freeman had 14 kills, 3 blocks and 13 digs and Kylie Vorhees had 8 kills, 24 digs and 3 aces. Olivia Hollstein had 7 kills, 14 digs and 2 aces and Cadence Miller recorded 29 assists. For Hardin Northern, Eris McCoy had 7 kills and Brenna Flowers had nine digs. Ava Hopson had three aces.

Crestview 3, Van Wert 0

CONVOY — Crestview won 25-17, 25-12 and 25-14. Crestview’s Laci McCoy had 12 kills and 3 blocks and Myia Etzler had 9 kills and 5 digs. Cali Gregory had 25 assists and 5 digs and Ellie Kline had 8 digs. Van Wert’s Alexa Gearhart had 15 kills, 15 dids, 23 digs and one ace and Mariana Ickes had six kills, eight digs and one block. Kayla Krites had 5 kills and 15 digs.

Shawnee 3, Columbus Grove 0

Shawnee won 25-15, 25-18 and 25-9. Shawnee’s Addison Maxwell had 28 assists, 10 digs and 1 ace and Karrington Green had 14 kills, 4 digs, 2 aces and 1 block. Grace Freiberger had 21 digs, 3 aces and 2 assists and Caily Eitmontas had 10 kills and 1 block. Kelly Cooper had 6 kills, 3 blocks, 1 ace, 1 dig and 1 assist and Paige Maxwell had 8 digs and 4 aces.

Allen East 3, Elmwood 0

Allen East won 25-21, 25-15 and 25-22. Hannah Williams had 39 assists and Savannah Brooks had 11 kills. Kenzie Koontz had 13 kills and Soraya Jackson had 12 kills and 1 block and Ellie Richardson had 3 kills and 9 blocks.

Temple Christian 3, Jefferson 2

Temple Christian won 26-28, 25-21, 28-26, 24-26 and 15-6. Temple Christian’s Cecelia Worsham had 26 kills and 16 digs and Emma White had 8 kills and 17 digs. Kaylee Linhart had 5 kills and 30 assists and Hailey Smith had 7 kills. Brianna Smith had 7 kills and 5 aces and Jessica Holloway had 5 aces and 48 digs. Emily Bontrager had 3 aces, 9 digs and 22 assists. For Jefferson, Grace Bridges had 9 kills and Gwen Teman and Jessa Rostorfor had 7 kills and 3 aces. Teman added 17 digs. Rostorfor had 33 digs.

Spencerville 3, Perry 1

SPENCERVILLE — Perry’s Lexenna Lee had 16 assists, 13 kills and 3 aces and Bryce James added 21 digs. Mary Hoersten had 11 assists, 18 kills and 5 blocks and Rhema Pernell had 6 kills and 5 blocks.

New Knoxville 3, Jackson Center 0

New Knoxville won 25-18, 25-19 and 25-22. New Knoxville’s Carsny Henschen had 21 kills and Avery Henschen had 11 kills. Haley Fledderjohann had 10 kills and Ellie Gabel had 44 assists.

ONU Cross Country

ADA — The Ohio Northern men’s and women’s track and field teams will start their 2022 indoor seasons by hosting a pair of meets Jan. 21 and 29 under 13th-year head coach Jason Maus.

The Polar Bears will host the annual Larry Cole Invitational on Jan. 21 and the annual Joe Banks Invitational on Jan. 29. Both meets will be held at the ONU sports Center.

Bluffton

Women’s Golf

MEADVILLE, Penn. – The Bluffton University women’s golf team finished its Heartland Conference championship preparation at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania on Monday.

Freshman Allie Waggener (Hilliard/Hilliard Bradley) led the way with an 87 on Monday. She finished (178) the weekend just one tick back from junior Haley Gill (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) who went 89-88 for a 177.

Senior Marissa Hall (Avon Lake) carded a 181, while Isabelle Vance (Continental/Miller City) was two strokes off her pace with a 183 (93-90). Freshman Kiley Cline (Fostoria/Hopewell Louden) and Keely Briggs (Franklin) rounded out the Bluffton six at 184 and 199, respectively.
