Letter: Stop whitewashing what happened Jan. 6

According to the revisionist amateur historian, Jan. 6 was an uneventful guided tour through the Capitol.

This being the case, it is astounding that the dollar amount of damage to the building is the estimated sum of $2.7-$3 million, no doubt taxpayer-funded, Mitch McConnell stated.

With regard to the presentation on Fox News, I want to associate myself entirely with the opinion of the Capitol Police about what happened on Jan. 6, “It was a mistake for Fox News to depict this in a way that is completely at variance with what our chief law enforcement officers believe.”

Of course, I can see why Mark Figley might prefer to dwell on a two-year-old riot rather than mention the GOP budget proposal, with 2,000 fewer border patrol agents, 11,000 fewer FBI personnel, the scaling back of rail safety and the closing of 125 air traffic control centers.

Whitewashing history is a GOP strong suit. I’m wondering if the guest provocateur doubts the atrocities committed by the Nazis 75 years ago or if he sides with Trump’s white supremacist dinner guest, Nick Fuentes, and holocaust denier, Sen. Paul Gosar, in their revisionist, whitewashed sugar-coated denial of fact.
