Von Blon gift means scholarship opportunities for OSU-Lima students

LIMA — Officials at Ohio State University at Lima announced the creation of the Vic and Judy Von Blon Endowed Scholarship Fund. An initial $50,000 gift will allow Ohio State-Lima to award at least two scholarships each year.

“We are very grateful for this gift by the Von Blon family and the opportunities the scholarships will create for our students,” said Interim Dean and Director Dr. Joe Brandesky. “During her time on the campus, Judy was a strong supporter of Ohio State-Lima students. This gift will continue that legacy far into the future.”

In her 33 years at the Ohio State-Lima campus, Judy Von Blon served as a typist, moved on to the faculty services office and retired as the executive assistant to the dean and director.

Vic Von Blon graduated from OSU’s doctor of optometry program in 1958. He served four years as an optometry officer in the U.S. Army before opening an office in St. Marys, where he practiced for 42 years.

Once endowed, the Vic and Judy Von Blon Endowed Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships to under-graduate students attending Ohio State-Lima who demonstrate financial need and leadership abilities with preference given to candidates from Auglaize County. The current use fund that the Von Blon’s established in 2013 has provided five scholarships to Ohio State-Lima students.
